V1 Golf is one of the best-known golf swing apps, and for good reason: it's been around for years and it connects golfers with real coaches. Golf Studio is newer and does a different job. If you're choosing between them, the honest answer depends on whether you have a coach.

Where V1 Golf is better
Coaching. This is V1's real strength. You can send swings to your coach, receive lessons back with their voice and drawings over your video, chat, book live sessions, and find a new instructor through the app. If you have lessons, there's a good chance your coach already uses V1 or something like it, and Golf Studio doesn't try to do this.
Tour comparisons. With V1 Golf Plus you can put your swing next to a library of tour players' swings. Golf Studio compares your swings with each other, not with the pros.
Analysis tools. Advanced V1sion adds skeleton tracking, and V1 works with pressure sensors. Golf Studio has neither.
Where Golf Studio is better
Price. Golf Studio is free, with nothing held back. The features V1 charges for that Golf Studio also has, such as the shot tracer and comparing swings, are free in Golf Studio.
Tempo. Golf Studio times your backswing and downswing, shows the ratio against the tour's three to one and scores it out of 100. V1 Golf doesn't measure tempo. There's more on why it matters in our guide to golf swing tempo.
Privacy. Golf Studio needs no account and uploads nothing: your swings stay on your phone. V1 Golf saves your swings to its cloud, which is what lets a coach see them, and its App Store privacy details list data used for tracking and advertising.
Keeping a record. Every swing lands in Golf Studio's journal on the day you filmed it, next to your rounds and practice scores, and the best ones become highlight reels with music, a shot tracer and your scorecard.
Which should you choose?
- You take lessons, or want to: V1 Golf. Its coaching features are the reason to pay for it.
- You practise on your own and want to see your ball flight, your tempo and your progress, free: Golf Studio.
They can also live side by side: nothing stops you filming in Golf Studio for your own record and sending the swing your coach needs to see through V1.
