There are dozens of golf swing apps, and most of them do the basics: record a swing, play it back slowly, step through it frame by frame. Where they differ is everything around that. Some are built for working with a coach. Some try to diagnose your swing for you. Some draw the ball's flight. Some cost nothing, and some cost more a year than a new wedge.
Here are five of the best-known golf swing apps for iPhone, what each is genuinely best at, and what it costs.

V1 Golf
V1 Golf, from V1 Sports, is one of the longest-running swing analysis apps, and it's built around coaching. You can record a swing, step through it, draw lines and angles on it, and put it side by side with, or on top of, another swing, including a library of tour players' swings. Its biggest strength is the connection to real instructors: you can send your swings to a coach, get lessons back with a voice-over and drawings, and even find a new coach through the app.
The paid tiers add more: V1 Golf Plus unlocks comparison and the HD swing library, and Advanced V1sion adds skeleton tracking and ball tracing, which draws the ball's flight from your video. You need an account, and your swings are saved to V1's cloud.
Best for: golfers who have a coach, or want one. Worth knowing: much of what makes it special sits behind a subscription.
OnForm
OnForm is a video coaching platform that covers many sports, golf included, and it's the most powerful app here for filming. It records at up to 240 frames a second, from more than one camera at a time, and connects to launch monitors such as Garmin's and to pressure mats. It has 3D skeleton tracking, club-head tracking and a kinematic sequence for golf, and a full messaging and lesson system between coaches and players.
Plans run from a Personal plan at £4.99 a month up to coach and academy plans. Players connected to a coach on OnForm can record and share for free. You need an account.
Best for: coaches, and players whose coach uses it. Worth knowing: it's a coaching tool first, so there's no shot tracer, tempo measurement or scorekeeping.
Swing Profile
Swing Profile's trick is hands-free filming. Put your phone in a holder, hit balls, and it spots each swing, trims it to a couple of seconds and replays it in slow motion straight away, with no tapping between shots. It draws swing-plane lines for you, builds a frame-by-frame swing sequence, has skeleton tracking, and tracks the ball's flight. Two swings can be compared side by side, synced automatically.
The free version keeps your latest three recordings and limits replays and ball tracking per hour; the paid Elite plan removes the limits and adds cloud backup, and a Coach plan adds tools for teaching.
Best for: practice sessions at the range, where you want instant replays without touching the phone. Worth knowing: the free version keeps very few swings.
GolfFix
GolfFix, from Moais, is an AI golf coach. Film a swing and it analyses it on the spot, spotting more than 45 swing faults (a slice, a hook, fat and thin shots and more), overlaying your skeleton, club path and wrist path, and suggesting drills. Its paid plan adds deeper analysis, lessons for each fault, monthly reports and a rhythm and tempo analysis. There's also a community for sharing swings and tips.
The free version shows ads, and you sign in with Google, Apple or email.
Best for: golfers practising alone who want to be told what to fix. Worth knowing: the best of it, tempo included, is on the £14.99-a-month plan.
Golf Studio
Golf Studio is our app, and it's built around a different idea: a swing journal. Every swing you film is kept on the day you filmed it, alongside your rounds and practice. On top of that it has the tools golfers most often pay for elsewhere, all free:
- a shot tracer that draws the ball's flight, in 27 looks, and a club tracer for the club head's path;
- swing tempo: your backswing and downswing timed, the ratio against the tour's three to one, and a score out of 100;
- side-by-side comparison lined up on the strike, slow motion and speed ramps;
- a score tracker, highlight reels with music, and scorecards on your videos.
There's no account and nothing is uploaded: your swings stay on your phone.
Best for: golfers who want to film, trace and time their swings and keep a record of their game, for free. Worth knowing: it has no AI fault diagnosis and no link to a coach, and it's iPhone only for now, with Android on the way.

How to choose
- You have a coach: ask which app they use. V1 Golf and OnForm are both built for sending swings back and forth.
- You want to be told what to fix: GolfFix's AI is the only one here that diagnoses faults for you.
- You film a lot of swings at the range: Swing Profile's hands-free replays save a lot of tapping.
- You want a shot tracer, your tempo and a record of your game without paying: that's what we built Golf Studio for.
Whichever you choose, the app matters less than the filming. Put the phone in the same place every time, at hand height, and film your swing properly, and any of these will show you something useful.
